Labowi Promotions is a not-for-profit community-based organisation that was established over fifteen years ago by a small group of people from the southern village of Laborie. The group's main objective is to promote genuine community evelopment through arts and culture, by bringing quality cultural performances to the south of Saint Lucia and by improving the skills and visibility of local artists and performers. Ultimately, the goal of Labowi Promotions is to enhance social togetherness and harmony and to promote economic development through cultural events and expression. Since its creation, this group has organised more than 200 events and activities, in music, education, dance, drama and visual arts.


Labowi Promotions est une association à buts non-lucratifs créée il y a plus de quinze ans par un petit groupe de personnes du village de Laborie, dans le sud de Sainte-Lucie. L'objectif principal de ce groupe est de promouvoir un développement local harmonieux, au travers des arts et de l'action culturelle, en permettant au public du sud de Sainte Lucie de découvrir des productions de qualité, et en augmentant la qualité et la visibilité des productions locales. A long terme, l'ambition de Labowi Promotions est de renforcer la cohésion et l'harmonie sociales et de contribuer au développement économique à travers l'expression et les représentations culturelles. Depuis sa création, le groupe a monté, produit ou invité plus de 200 spectacles et activités artistiques (musique, danse, littérature, arts plastiques) etéducatives.

LABOWI PROMOTIONS PARTNERS

Labowi Promotions collaborates with a large number of organisations and groups at the local, national and international levels.

In the community of Laborie, Labowi Promotions is one of the founding members of the Laborie Development Foundation, and it works closely with the Foundation and with other community groups. In particular, the Laborie Village Council and the Laborie Parish provide venues for many of the performances and events organised by Labowi Promotions.

The organisation also benefits from the skills and resources of a number of local cultural groups and performers, such as X-tra Luv, a band that has been in existence for almost two decades. At the national level, Labowi Promotions is affiliated to and has a close working relationship with the Cultural Development Foundation.

It also collaborates with organisations such as the Folk Research Centre and the Saint Lucia National Trust. Over the years, Labowi Promotions has hosted events and organised joint activities with most of the cultural groups in Saint Lucia .

In nearby communities, a close relationship has been established with the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation and with the Southern Tourism Development Corporation in Vieux Fort.

The organisation's main partner in the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival is the Saint Lucia Tourist Board. The two main sponsors of Labowi Promotions' Jazz in the South 2006 Edition are the Bank of Saint Lucia and Cable & Wireless St. Lucia Ltd.(LIME).

Other current sponsors of Jazz in the South are the Saint Lucia Air & Sea Ports Authority, Saint Lucia Marine Terminals Ltd., Par Avion Restaurant and Bar, Paradise Water, Auto Services, the Alliance Française, WIZO Ltd. and the Laborie Co-operative Credit Union. Labowi Promotions is also working with the Vieux-Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, otherwise known as St. Lucia's Jazz Campus, the venue for main stage.

Labowi Promotions is part of the Communication Network of Cultural Organisations in the Eastern Caribbean, a project executed by the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Secretariat, with funding and technical assistance from the French Government.

More than fifty cultural organisations, both governmental and non-governmental, working within different fields - performing arts, music, painting, heritage, environment, will eventually participate in this network and will use it to share experiences and information.

The network will use the Internet as a preferred tool for contacts among cultural actors of the islands, strengthening bonds while promoting their diversity.
